Raiders Under Contract: RB Zamir White
Las Vegas Raiders running back Zamir White's 2023 campaign reassured the club that its running back room is in good hands, regardless of Josh Jacobs' future with the team.
Jacobs is a free agent this season, and while the Raiders' declaration of Antonio Pierce as a full-time head coach helped sustain the veteran running back's interest in Las Vegas, we know that contract negotiations have not been easy to settle on between these two parties.
White proved that he can will the Raiders to victory without Jacobs, even against the best of teams, e.g., the Kansas City Chiefs.
The former fourth-round pick stepped in for an injured Jacobs in the last four games of the 2023 season. In his first career start, White posted 69 rushing yards, 16 receiving yards, and his first-career touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15.
In Las Vegas' win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium the following week, White recorded a career-high 145 rushing yards, including some crucial runs to seal the contest late.
White ultimately finished the season with 451 rushing yards, 98 receiving yards, and a touchdown. He did so after having just 17 rushing attempts in his rookie season.
No matter what the running back room looks like in 2024, the Raiders have a very promising up-and-comer with White. Should Jacobs return, Las Vegas should use the duo to its advantage, perhaps splitting the reps. Pierce made it known this past season that Jacobs is still his No. 1 back, but White showed this season that he is too valuable not to utilize.
Fortunately for the Raiders, no decisions regarding White's future with the team need to be made for quite a while. But by the end of his third year, Las Vegas should clearly understand his role.
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
