Three Takeaways From Raiders First Preseason Game
The Las Vegas Raiders showed up for their first preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. The Raiders dominated the game on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and won, 34-7, over the 49ers.
There are multiple takeaways from the Raiders first preseason game. However, this article will cover three main takeaways from the Raiders' preseason victory over the 49ers.
The first takeaway from the game is rookie quarterback Aiden O'Connell. The fourth-round draft choice out of Purdue had an overall great performance in his first-ever NFL game.
O'Connell played most of the game and got subbed out late in the third quarter. He finished by completing 15 passes on 18 attempts for 141 yards and a touchdown to wide receiver Keelan Cole in the second quarter.
The second takeaway from the Raiders' first preseason game was the defense. Throughout the offseason, a goal the Raiders had for this for their defense was to make plays on defense and force turnovers.
The Raiders made plays and forced two turnovers during their first preseason game, finishing with four sacks. Cornerback Sam Webb had a pass interception, while cornerback Azizi Hearn recorded a fumble recovery.
The third takeaway from the Raiders' first preseason game was the running back room. Running back Zamir White led the game in rushing with 43 yards on 13 carries and a rushing touchdown on the Raiders' opening drive.
Running back Sincere McCormick also had an excellent performance. He finished the game by rushing for 27 yards on 13 total carries with one rushing touchdown and a pass reception for another score. He will continue to work hard in hopes to making the Raiders' 53-man roster.
The Silver and Black return to preseason action when they play the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 9 p.m. EDT/6 p.m. PDT.
