QB Rattler Has Been on AP's Radar Since High School
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Quarterback Spencer Rattler has been a highly-coveted prospect ever since his high school days, having entered college as the consensus No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2019.
A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Rattler played for Pinnacle High School, where he totaled a state record 11,086 passing yards in his career.
Rightfully so, Rattler gained the nation's attention and became a target for many teams. One of those programs was, of course, Arizona State.
At the time, ASU's recruiting coordinator was Antonio Pierce, who is now evaluating talent at the NFL level as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
It's been more than five years since Rattler was receiving his college offers, and Pierce is still showing interest in the young quarterback.
"[The Raiders are] close to home, great coaching staff, I know Coach Pierce," Rattler said when he addressed the media at the NFL Combine on Friday. "I've had some talks with them. So, yeah, they went well."
A significant part of Rattler's early recognition was his chronicled senior campaign on the third season of the hit Netflix show, "QB1."
While the expectations were through the roof even back then, Rattler was able to weather the pressure.
"I just took it day by day," Rattler said. "I've always had confidence in myself, always believed I could make it here, so I think that's my answer for that one."
If the Raiders were to land Rattler in next month's draft, they would be adding a great leader on a team that thrives with strong chemistry.
"I get along with everybody on the team, no matter who it is," Rattler said of his leadership style. "Very motivated, very uplifting, very positive, good body language, there on time, doing the right thing."
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
