The Las Vegas Raiders' addition of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was one of their top moves this offseason, as he is anticipated to be the club's franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future.

However, another transaction included a former New England Patriot quarterback, which has been somewhat overlooked.

Veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer comes to the team when he is well past his prime, but championship experience will always be valued in this league.

And he certainly has it.

While Hoyer has not played in any of the three Super Bowls he's been to; he knows the atmosphere of a winning locker room.

The former Michigan State quarterback was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2009, joining the quarterback room with the great Tom Brady.

New England would find its way back in the Super Bowl in the 2011-12 season, its first appearance since 2007-08 when it fell to the New York Giants, whom it was now facing again.

In what was only his third year in the league, Hoyer saw what it took to make it to the sport's biggest stage, a valuable experience despite the Patriots once again coming up short.

Hoyer then built on his career with a one-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals and some years as a starter with the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, and Chicago Bears before returning to New England in November 2017.

That season, the Patriots returned to the Super Bowl, looking to defend the title they claimed by defeating the Atlanta Falcons the previous season.

This time, they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles, and heading into Year 10, Hoyer was still without a ring.

That changed when New England made it back to the Super Bowl for a third straight year, ultimately righting its wrongs from the previous season by besting the Los Angeles Rams for the franchise's sixth and latest title.

Hoyer then had a stint with the Indianapolis Colts before returning to New England. The Raiders signed him after the Patriots released him in March.

The Las Vegas Raiders open training camp for the entire team on July 25, 2023.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
