Raiders' Telesco Admired AP's Process of Hiring Staff

Las Vegas Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce made sure he got the right coaching staff for the 2024 NFL season.

As a first-time, full-time head coach, Antonio Pierce of the Las Vegas Raiders not only has the challenge of leading a team, but he was given the task of rounding out his own coaching staff.

Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco has worked with Pierce for only a short time and has yet to oversee Pierce when he takes his team to the field, but after spending some time with him while the Super Bowl was in town, Telesco is quite encouraged.

"What I thought was really, really neat with him was watching him go through the process of hiring assistant coaches, because I've been through that process before and sometimes it gets a little bit hectic," Telesco said when he addressed the media at the 2024 NFL Combine on Tuesday. 

"Sometimes you do some moves a little bit too quickly where you might hire a good coach, but maybe it doesn't necessarily fit maybe the vision or philosophy you're looking for. And he really took his time.

"He talked to a lot of people, did a lot of research, took in a lot of opinions, and put his staff in and took his time doing it. I mean, really, we didn't fill the staff until probably last week, I think we filled it right there. But it was great to see him work through that process.

"I'm like you can say he is a first-time head coach, but man, he handled that like a pro to me. So, I thought that was just a great sign to see."

Raider Nation should be pleased by the early connection their general manager and head coach have developed, as the two look to turn things around and get the Silver and Black back to their winning ways.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
