Raiders Hiring Tom Telesco as General Manager
The Las Vegas Raiders are hiring former Los Angeles Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco as their new general manager.
Telesco will succeed former Raiders Interim General Manager Champ Kelly, who had been promoted to the position following the firing of former General Manager Dave Ziegler back in October.
Telesco served as general manager of the Chargers from 2013 to 2023. He was fired following Los Angeles' 63-21 loss to the Raiders in Week 15.
The longtime NFL executive is known for his superb talent recognition and was responsible for some of the Chargers' more notable draft picks in recent years. Under Telesco's reign, the Chargers added four draft prospects who went on to be future Pro Bowlers and are still on the roster today -- quarterback Justin Herbert, wide receiver Keenan Allen, safety Derwin James, and pass rusher Joey Bosa. Allen will be going to his sixth Pro Bowl in the first weekend of February.
Telesco was also responsible for the blockbuster trade that brought former Raiders and Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack to Los Angeles in 2022.
Prior to his years with the Chargers, Telesco spent 15 years with the Indianapolis Colts, where he held the positions of area scout, pro scout, director of pro scouting, director of player personnel, and finally, vice president of football operations in 2012.
Telesco's career as an executive began with the Buffalo Bills, where he served as an intern from 1991 to 1994 and then a scouting assistant from 1995 to 1996. He then became an area scout for the Carolina Panthers in 1997.
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
