Josh McDaniels' Thoughts on Raiders' Newest Additions

The Las Vegas Raiders are in their second season with Coach Josh McDaniels at the helm, and he assesses the team's newest members.

When a new head coach and general manager enter a new organization, one common thing is roster turnover. The first few seasons of a new regime's tenure with a new team is simply getting the best players they believe would fit their vision and long-term plans.

Such is the case with the Las Vegas Raiders, who have seen many faces come and many faces go over the last two seasons. The 2023-24 NFL season is almost a quarter of the way through and Coach Josh McDaniels shared his thoughts on the newest Raiders.

“I mean, obviously, there's a lot of changes on our team, and I would say most teams are in that same situation," McDaniels said. "I thought, obviously, we've gotten some guys who just came here and became captains quickly, which is I think a tribute to them and what they've done. They've invested themselves in our program and our culture and really made an impact on other people.

"Like we talked about the other day, our young players who we've drafted are coming along and they learn every day, one way or the other. They either do it right, or we feel like we make some progress because we learn from a mistake. I think all of that stuff is still fresh. We're still in September and we want to just keep plugging along here."

The need for improvement from both new players and veteran Raiders still with the team from the previous regime is not lost on McDaniels.

"I think we have a long way to go and a lot of a lot of things to go through and a lot of improvements to make," McDaniels said. "But I've been really impressed with a lot of the veteran players we've added and then the attitude and the approach by the young players to try to acclimate to that style and that work pace and everything else. They got a lot of good people to learn from.”

The Raiders depend heavily on their newest players being an instrumental part of the organization's future, some more than others. Time will tell if that ends up being the case.

The Silver and Black return to the road this week in Inglewood, Calif., to play the Los Angeles Chargers (1-2) on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
