Any player who is selected in the first round of the NFL Draft is essential to their team. Considering the Las Vegas Raiders didn't have a first-round draft pick in 2022, Wilson naturally became even more critical of a pick.

The Raiders could not afford not to have a first-round pick and miss on their first-round pick the following year.

Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels has spoken all offseason about the plan in place for Tyree Wilson. He performed well during the preseason, hitting the goals Las Vegas' medical staff set for him.

"I think he's done a tremendous job of trying to follow the plan," McDaniels said. "He'll be ready to go."

The season's first game is days away, and McDaniels says Las Vegas will use this week to prepare Wilson for his first professional football game.

"We’re working, obviously every day is a good day for Tyree," McDaniels said. "He's kind of worked through this whole spring and summer on schedule with what we've been asking him to do. This week will be another week we'll push forward."

Wilson performed well during limited preseason action, but McDaniels doesn't expect Wilson to play an excessive amount of plays in Week 1. The Raiders coaching staff plans on using the rookie defensive end wisely.

"Nobody's going to play 70 plays on Sunday; that would be unrealistic," McDaniels said. "We've prepared hard, we've conditioned hard, but none of us have played a game for 60 minutes.

"So, he'll be out there, and like I said, we'll have a plan for that, and how much that will end up being, we'll see."

McDaniels feels that Wilson has progressed well, as has the defense as a unit.

"I thought we made some progress," McDaniels said. "There are certainly some areas where we made some progress, certainly some areas where we identified that we need to shore up and improve too.

"So, this will be an exciting opportunity for us to go out there and kind of see where we're at right now."

While trimming down their roster, the Raiders decided to keep more defensive linemen than any other position group. With all that is  going on with the Raiders defensive line, it has already proven to be a wise decision.

The Silver and Black open the regular season at the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:25 p.m. EDT/1:25 p.m. PDT.
