Raiders Optimistic About Tyree Wilson's Return Process
The Las Vegas Raiders have a lot to look forward to with their 2023 first-round pick, Tyree Wilson.
Unfortunately, the Raiders have had to be patient as they wait to see the prospect in action as a member of the Silver and Black.
Wilson, who suffered a season-ending foot injury in his final year at Texas Tech, was placed on the Raiders' non-football injury list on Friday.
The young edge rusher has yet to be a participant in team practices, but Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels has been encouraged by the process.
"No timeline, but he's [Wilson] headed in the right direction, no question about it, excited about that," McDaniels told the media on Tuesday. "And this is, again, just a process that we expected based on what was happening at the time we drafted him. So, we knew that there was going to be a rehabilitation process and then there's going to be a re-acclamation phase here. He's doing a great job of everything that he's doing right now. And once he's ready to roll, then we'll re-enter him into practice the right way and then get him ready to go for the regular season."
Wilson registered 61 combined tackles, 14 for losses, seven sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in only 10 games for Texas Tech last season.
All in all, the defensive end posted 109 combined tackles, 29 for losses, 15.5 sacks, a pass defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in his two seasons covering 23 games as a Red Raider.
He transferred to Texas Tech from Texas A&M, where he also played two seasons.
Wilson was named a Pro Football Writers of America first-team All-American and All-Big 12 First Team honoree by league coaches, the Associated Press, and Phil Steele for the 2022 season.
The Raiders selected Wilson with the seventh overall pick in this year's NFL Draft.
The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
