Davante Adams Shines in Week 3 Against Steelers
Despite the loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Las Vegas Raiders' home opener in Allegiant Stadium, star wide receiver Davante Adams was a key part of the success the Silver and Black had on offense against the very talented Steelers' defense.
This was Adams' fourth career game against the Steelers and second time playing Pittsburgh with the Silver and Black.
The Raiders lost to the Steelers, 23-18, on prime-time Sunday Night Football, but Adams' success started in the first quarter.
On a gutsy fourth-and-one play call, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo found Adams for a 32-yard touchdown reception early in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.
Late in the fourth quarter with the Raiders making the game enjoyable, Garoppolo found Adams for a one-yard touchdown reception. It was safe to say that Garoppolo's favorite target was against the Steelers and their very talented secondary, which finished the game with three turnovers.
Adams wound up with 13 receptions for 132 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
It was a record-breaking night for the All-Pro Adams, who racked up his 62nd red zone receiving touchdown of his career. He passed Hall of Famer Randy Moss for the fifth most red zone receiving touchdowns in NFL history.
Adams is behind and chasing only Antonio Gates (92), Larry Fitzgerald (83), Tony Gonzalez (74), Jimmy Graham (70) and Rob Gronkowski (65).
The Raiders fell to 1-2 this season and have lost two games.
The Silver and Black return to the road next week in Inglewood, Calif., to play the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
