Raiders' Abdullah to Have Lead Role in Upcoming Film
Las Vegas Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah has had a long career as an NFL running back, but he has another career on the side that many might not know about.
Abdullah is an actor, producer, and screenwriter. Now, he is preparing for what will perhaps be his most significant on-screen project yet.
Per a press release, Abdullah has been cast for a lead role in an upcoming Urban drama: "Break the Cycle," a story written by former NBA player Jarnell Stokes that is set to begin production in March.
“This film is a heart-pounding journey through the world of street-ball that explores themes of family, ambition, and the moral complexities of urban life," Stokes said. "It tells the story of navigating a treacherous path, an unfortunate reality for far too many young boys in our urban communities. I’m so excited to have Ameer as part of this tremendously talented group of actors who will help bring this project to lifE."
Abdullah will be part of a cast that includes former NFL Pro Bowl tight end and Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis and Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr.
The film will be directed by Josh Weber.
Abdullah has been the executive producer of three films since 2019 and has one in the works.
The veteran running back has played in every game for the Raiders over their last two seasons. In his time with the Silver and Black, Abdullah has totaled 109 rushing yards, 342 receiving yards, and one touchdown.
The Detroit Lions drafted Abdullah in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
