Telesco Strikes Again: Adding RB Mattison
The Las Vegas Raiders lost RB Josh Jacobs to the Green Bay Packers, and that was fine because the Silver and Black have emerging star Zamir White in the fold.
While the Raiders were ready to nab a running back in the NFL Draft if they couldn't land a suitable backup for White, they had hoped a viable option would accept General Manager Tom Telesco's offer.
That happened today when former Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison agreed to terms with the team.
At just 25 years old, Mattison carried the ball 180 times last season for 700 yards. He also caught 30 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
A terrific mix of Zamir White and Ameer Abduallah, he is a capable runner, a solid pass catcher, and a stout blocker. While not the master of any of the three, he is solid in all three.
Mattison is a quality locker room presence and is still young, making the Raiders' 1-2 punch of White and Mattison a solid combination. The Raiders can now take a running back in the NFL Draft by choice, but it is not necessary.
We discussed possibly adding Mattison earlier today in our weekly Q&A article.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
