HENDERSON, Nev.--The Las Vegas Raiders held a mandatory mini-camp and defensive tackle Bilal Nichols spoke after practice.

Nichols is a solid veteran, and he has taken a leadership role this year with four defensive tacklea in their sophomore or rookie campaigns.

We have all of his comments that you can watch, and read the transcript below:

 Defensive Tackle Bilal Nichols

Q: Could you talk about the youth in that defensive tackle room and how you're leading it and guiding it?

Nichols: “Yeah, a different group than last year. Definitely an exciting time getting to work with the guys and getting back with each other, and building camaraderie. But everybody has been working hard, and as a dude you appreciate that everybody giving it their all day in and day out, whether it's a rookie, vet, or whatever the case may be, everybody going hard. So, you just appreciate that.”

Q: There's a lot of guys who are competing for spots. What's the fine line between competing against these guys, but also helping the younger players develop for the team?

Nichols: "Just coming out day in and day out, and not only working hard but also just giving information. I've been blessed enough to play around dudes who always gave me the game and wanted me to be successful, and that's just something that you try to pass along."

Q: How do you think you can improve upon last season? How do you think you can kind of take another step forward?

Nichols: "Just coming in and just continuing to do what I do. Come in here with a mindset to get better and better each day. If you could just get one percent better each day over time, it's going to build up, and you're going to be closer to where you want to be."

Q: What would you say was the biggest takeaway for you personally these last couple of days?

Nichols: " To just live in the moment, and then just enjoy being back out here with my teammates. I think that was the biggest thing when you go through the offseason, and you don’t really see your guys as much; when you finally get back with them, you’re just excited to be back working with them. So, I just be trying to live in a moment now and just appreciate the fact that I'm around a bunch of great talented dudes and I can learn stuff from them and pick their brains and become a better player."

Q: Did you come into minicamp with certain goals for yourself and things you want to work on? What's your approach?

Nichols: "Well, my goal always pretty much stays the same. It's just to get better. I just try to get better and better. Like, I don't ever try to put anything extra on myself. If you come in with the intent every day to get better in everything you do, you try to do it to the best of your ability and better than you did the day before, then naturally, you're going to get better. So, I just try to keep that mindset.”

Q: You haven't had him on the field yet, but the first-round draft pick Tyree Wilson, how is he going to impact the defensive line going forward?

Nichols: "It’s going to be great. We got a great group, which is just everybody in general. It's going to be great. Like, we all help each other. We all learn from each other, and we are still working to get better and learn each other. I think our room overall is going to be solid.”

Q: What's the best advice you can give to someone like Byron Young, who's coming in as a rookie?

Nichols: "Literally the same thing I've been preaching, come in every day with the intent to get better. Those are things that I was taught, and those are the same things that I try to pass down to younger dudes; just come in with the intent to get better day in and day out, and you will never have to worry about anything.”

Q: For the guys in the second year in the system, how much has it slowed down now that you understand the scheme and you can work on the smaller stuff?

Nichols: "It’s definitely nice. Like I said, being here with my team allows you to really get that chemistry, get that bond and just get that camaraderie with each other. That definitely makes it easier, and plus, when you're playing with so many selfless players, bro, like it makes things so much easier for you.”
