Wide Receiver Davante Adams

Q: Sometimes as a leader of a team you've got to say things that need to be said at times. It's not always the easiest thing to do, but it doesn't seem like you've ever been afraid of doing that. You did that Sunday night. You feel like it resonated the way it needed to resonate?

Adams: "For the for the people who I needed to, yeah. The rest of the people, it's no surprise, it's no secret that I truly don't care what people think, as long as the people who it's intended for understand the message, that's what's most important to me. For the people who didn't understand the message, it was not a shot or directed at anybody in the front office here. That was about us as a football team, and the players who go out there and control things and have the most control of what happens and the outcome of games. I think it's really cowardly and small thing to take shots at coaches when we do have a lot to do, the most to do, with what happens ultimately out there on the field. So, a I'm pretty direct dude, as you know, so if it was that, I mean I wouldn't personally to decide to go to the media about it. I would take care of it the way that a man is supposed to. I'm just big on taking care of my part of it, and I take a tremendous amount of pride in what I do and what I put into this game and my portion of it. I'd like to think that it reflects in the outcome and the product that you see on the field. So, I just try to keep it to that and then let the rest of the stuff handle itself."

Q: It's often said that Sunday is just really a continuation on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday -- that that process of winning actually starts on Monday. You've been around some great teams, are you a proponent of that? Do you feel like that's happening here with everybody?

Adams: "Yeah, I mean it's not happening to the degree that we want it to happen. And I definitely agree with that idea. That's what you're after. That's what all the best teams do. It's not just about the Sunday or the Saturday before the game, cleaning things up. You have to be locked in and attentive to all the things that go into a winning week. And we're trying to do things the right way, but there is just another level that I know we can tap into. So that's basically where I'm at right now."

Q: How strange is it on a Wednesday, not really knowing yet who the quarterback is going to be on Sunday with Jimmy Garoppolo's status?

Adams: "I mean it's a little weird, but like I said, I'm just trying to control everything that I can right now, which is being locked in. And it's not like we have other quarterbacks in there we haven't been with since OTAs. So, it would be an adjustment for sure, but nothing too new for us."

Q: How would you describe the way Aidan [O'Connell] handles himself not only in pocket but the way he throws the ball?

Adams: "I mean, Aidan [O'Connell], I think he's opened up a lot of eyes since he's been here coming from Purdue and not being a super highly touted quarterback as far as to my knowledge. I don't really pay too much attention to college, but I think he's surprised a lot of people for what he's done and he's shown a lot of poise and some promise for sure. But he's got to just keep doing what he's doing and he'll be well on his way whenever his time comes."

Q: I think Brian Hoyer has been in the league since 2009. Does that show out there? Does it look like he's still the guy that's learning? Adams:

"It shows in the good ways. He has a lot of a lot of obviously maturity and experience and a lot of different little tidbits he can kind of give the younger guys or even Jimmy [Garoppolo]. He's been doing it for a long time as well, but just having been in this system and all those different things like that, it kind of gives them a little bit of a coach's perspective a little bit mixed with player's which can be beneficial for whoever is in there."

Q: How much of a difference is it if you do have to switch to a different quarterback, not just in the way they throw the ball, but just in terms of timing and kind of being able to read off each other?

Adams: "Well, I mean going quarterback to quarterback, team to team, I'd say that it's probably more of that adjustment of the timing than when you have the same guys because we're out there working together to try to get the same -- they want to have it look pretty universal whoever is in there running the route and whoever is throwing the ball. So, it's a little bit of a difference, but nothing that a week of practice -- we can go out there and work on it."

Q: Like you said, both those guys have been here, but what's your role or what role do you take in kind of helping get them ready for this weekend if they do play?

Adams: "I mean, we've been all working together for so long now, so it's really not as big of a thing as what it might seem on the outside as far as the adjustment and getting used to going with somebody new. But even within training camp, Jimmy [Garoppolo] would take a couple of reps and then [Brian] Hoyer would come in and throw. I caught balls from Aidan [O'Connell] in training camp as well. So, it's definitely less than what I've caught from 10, but we're making it up right now."

The Silver and Black return to the road this week in Inglewood, Calif., to play the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
