Report: Magic Johnson Interfered with APs Decision

A recent report from NFL Network suggests that Earvin "Magic" Johnson interfered with Las Vegas Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce's first big decision as a head coach.

HENDERSON, Nev.--Early last year, there were rumors that Earvin "Magic" Johnson wanted to buy into the Las Vegas Raiders. Still, that rumor fell by the wayside as he eventually became a part-owner of the Washington Commanders.

But now a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network says that one of his first actions as a part-owner of another franchise in the National Football League most certainly was hurting the new coach of the team he allegedly wanted to buy into.

Per Rapaport, Johnson stepped in to stop the deal after the Raiders Pierce and Kliff Kingsbury had agreed that he wanted to be the OC of the Silver and Black and that Piece wanted him.

Per Rapaport, "This is as big as it gets for the Washington Commanders.  To look at the flop that happened when he was with the Raiders, my understanding is Magic Johnson, who is a limited partner with the Commanders, was actually the one to kind of step in and pull Kliff Kingsbury back and go, 'You know what, if this deal with the Raiders isn't perfect, maybe there is a home for you in Washington."

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
