Fair, Realistic Expectations for Raiders' Jimmy Garoppolo?

What are fair and realistic expectations for the new Las Vegas Raiders QB, Jimmy Garoppolo?

HENDERSON, Nev.--Expectations for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with the Las Vegas Raiders are extremely high. They should be when the team gambles nearly $70 million dollars on an often injured signal caller.

With the Raiders having moved from Oakland to Las Vegas, the excitement surrounding the move was palpable, and this team has some amazing potential.

Garoppolo was a highly sought-after free agent and was chosen for what he could bring to the table for this fresh start. Reasonable expectations for that money on an ICONIC franchise in which owner Mark Davis has declared they aren’t rebuilding (see video below) should be to stay healthy and take the Raiders from being a team with potential and eventually turn them into a powerhouse in the league.

With Garoppolo under center, the Raiders hope for great things as a leader and a player. His years of experience in the NFL are an asset, as he has proven his worth in the league. He is expected to be a tremendous asset to the team by providing leadership and guidance in the Josh McDaniels system and an experienced, steady hand in the pocket.

Garoppolo has proven to perform and win at the highest levels, when healthy. The emphasis, unfortunately on, is “When healthy.”

His experience with the New England Patriots should also pay dividends in understanding the Josh McDaniels system and the game's nuances.

There is a lot of pressure on Garoppolo to perform, as expectations are extremely high for the Raiders to return to compete for at least the AFC Playoffs Wild Card spot and make a deep run of relevance into the final week of this season.

However, with him leading the charge and healthy, the possibilities are endless as the Raiders look to make a push toward the aforementioned NFL Playoffs.

If healthy, Garoppolo is the perfect quarterback to lead this team, and if he lives up to the hype, the Raiders will be a force to be reckoned with in the league for years to come.

Garoppolo's success in Las Vegas will rely heavily on his ability to stay healthy and remain on the field, as he has had trouble staying injury-free during his professional career. Jimmy Garoppolo will be under great pressure this upcoming season, with the expectations of leading the Raiders in 2023 to being relevant in late December and pushing for the AFC West crown in 2024.

The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:

OTA Offseason workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15

Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
