Jon Gruden of Las Vegas Raiders Impressed by Carolina Panthers
Henderson, Nev. -- The Las Vegas Raiders Jon Gruden knows that on the road against the Carolina Panthers is going to bring a tough challenge for the Silver and Black.
New signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater leads the Panthers, and Gruden knows his skill set very well.
"We've been watching Baylor, we've been watching Temple, we've been watching LSU's offense, we've been watching the Saints' offense to get ready for the Carolina offense," Gruden said. "It's been a challenge that way. We know Teddy, he's a good player. He's a good leader. He's going to give us all we want. You're not going to fool him very often. And he's an accurate passer if you give him time. We've talked about Maliek Collins, our young defensive line; we have to be up to the challenge."
One thing that has emerged this week is the respect that Matt Rhule, the new Carolina coach, has for the Raiders' head man. He praised Gruden and it sincerely meant a lot to Gruden.
"Obviously I have a lot of respect for him," Gruden said. "That's awfully nice to hear that he would say something like that. When I was coaching and doing Monday Night Football, I followed him at Temple. I have a lot of respect for him and what he did at Temple. Then he went to Baylor and turned that program around after a lot of bad things that happened. This is one hell of a coach. He's a great guy. You can see why he was coveted by Carolina to be their coach."
But Gruden isn't simply impressed with Rhule. He likes the entirety of the Panther team.
"We know with Bridgewater and McCaffrey and Carolina Panthers Matt Rhule, we're going to have our hands full."
