Raiders' Josh Jacobs Goes Back, As Career Moves Forward
HENDERSON, Nev.--Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Dave Ziegler and Coach Josh McDaniels last year decided not to execute their fifth-year option on star running back Josh Jacobs.
All he did was go out last season and run the ball 340 times for 1653 yards and 12 touchdowns. Additionally, he caught 53 passes for 400 yards.
Did I mention that he also won the NFL rushing crown?
The Raiders quickly franchised him for the 2023 season, a tag that will pay him north of $10 million dollars this season.
Both Jacobs and the Raiders would like to work out a long-term deal. As we recently reported, a long-term deal looks different to both parties, but the relationship has not become animus up to this point, and the parties hope a deal can be reached.
The deadline for that is July 17, 2023, and while Jacobs has not shown up for any of the team's activities this offseason (he is not required to), sources have confirmed that deal or no deal, Jacobs is expected to play when the season kicks off.
Jacobs made news, however, on another front today.
In a Tweet, pictured above, Jacobs sent a picture of him wearing his old No. 8 at the University of Alabama on his Raiders jersey, clearing indicated his desire to change back to his previous number while playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
In his first four years playing for the Silver and Black, he wore No. 28.
While the Raiders have not confirmed the change for Jacobs, moments ago, a source familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak on the record told me: "It is Josh's intention and desire to move to the No. 8, and I see no reason why that is not going to happen."
The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:
OTA Offseason workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15
Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
