Answering Your Las Vegas Raiders Questions, Email

The Las Vegas Raiders are one of the world's most influential professional sports franchises, and we take time each week to answer the questions of a rabid fan base.

LAS VEGAS, Nev.--The Las Vegas Raiders are only a few hours from taking on the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at Allegiant Stadium; we answer some of the questions and e-mails from Raider Nation.

Hello Hondo, I want to tell you that I really appreciate how you cover this team. Thank you for helping me make sense of it all. Thank you for your honesty and dedication to your work. It makes a difference and is appreciated more than you know. --James S.

Thank you, James, that was very kind.

Hondo, after making for the second time a ridiculous penalty in a game and this time being ejected, shouldn't the Raiders release Jerry Tillery?  I mean it's not like he is an All-Pro or anything and I just think his boneheaded plays outweigh his contributions. --Tim F.

I would not, but I wouldn't have spent $102 million of my salary cap on offense. Considering their budget and being in-season, I say no.

Hondo,  I know you like Josh McDaniels, but I have to say that he had more part in losing to the Chargers than anyone else. His play-calling is really killing us. He needed to call a run play when we had the ball at the 3 with 2:39 in the 4th quarter. Even if O'Connell threw a TD, there would have been too much time left. What are your thoughts on that? --Jaime V.

I think that in any organization (football or not), everything rises and falls on leadership. I think it is fair to question the play-calling and have that opinion.

Hondo, did I read you correctly when you said that the leadership of the Raiders had previous knowledge of the issues with Chandler Jones before he signed with us as a free agent? Really? --Carlos M.

Yes.

Hondo, do you think Josh McDaniels has a great staff? --Tracey H.

I think he has some really good staff members, but the ones that are not good are really bad. He has staff members hurting this team badly right now. Watch my latest podcast for more in-depth analysis.

Hey Hondo, when you look at the NFL Draft and that they took Michael Mayer the TE, and Tre Tucker, the  WR, add the lack of using Hunter Renfrow, all by both quarterbacks; who does that rest on? --Chris S.

Josh McDaniels.

Hondo, I found your comments, and reasoning as to why AO4 was not prepared, both depressing and sad. I know you like Josh McDaniels, but we shouldn't consistently be let down by our staff, should we? Why do you think that happens? --Karen T.

No, you shouldn't. I think Josh is very talented, but he overthinks things sometimes. I have heard that from others as well.

Hi Hondo, I loved your article with the GM talking about Davante Adams. I was curious if you have spoken with Davante Adams since you wrote it. --Amanda R.

Yes, of course.

Hondo, I love how you cover my Raiders. I was wondering about the internal reception to your coverage and how the Raiders treat you. --Matt B.

The Raiders, top to bottom, are some of the finest people and organizations in professional sports. I don't make it personally, and they are not only nice, they are warm and kind. As one leader in the organization told me this week: "If we don't like it, we have to change it because you are spilling facts." This is a first-class organization, and the misconception by the fans is that they don't care. From owner Mark Davis to the janitors, no one is happy with the results.

Hondo I respect you, but not asking about no review on Davante Adams's touchdown disappointed me. Why not? --Kim B.

First, I wonder if anyone ever asks other media why they don't ask more tough questions. Why only me? Secondly, this organization has bigger issues than that call. That is a symptom of the problem; I asked about the problem. Watch the video below to see:

Hondo, I was outraged that Josh McDaniels threw AO4 under the bus. However, I noticed you didn't take issue with it.  Do you disagree?  Jeff C.

I had no issues with what Josh said; Aidan is now a professional. Josh himself said multiple times, it started with him as the head coach, and I didn't see anything he said, as it pertained to AO4's play as wrong.

Hondo, do you think Jimmy Garoppolo is feeling any pressure?  --Tim G.

Of course, and if he loses tonight, afterward, he will be feeling much more.

Hondo, I have seen reports that the Raiders are making inquiries on trading for a DE? Do you believe those rumors, and who would they trade? --Fred D.

They are true, but they won't mortgage the future. If they fill the long-term plan, great, but if it is only for this year, they aren't going to throw anyone away. It is dicey. General Manager Dave Ziegler will not take his eyes off the future, but he is focused on today.

You all are very kind this week; no Hondo hate.
