Las Vegas Raiders S Chris Smith, A Scouting Report
HENDERSON, Nev.--The Las Vegas Raider may have found the biggest steal in the NFL Draft when National Champion, Georgia Bulldogs safety Chris Smith fell to them at their 170th (fifth-round) selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
While certainly not the biggest safety in the NFL Draft, Smith is ferocious, and without him, the Georgia Bulldogs probably wouldn't have won the last two college football national titles.
To break down the game, the talents, and the man that is Chris Smith in our latest episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast, we bring on Georgia Bulldogs insider Mike Griffith from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dawg Nation.
Griffith details how Smith impacted the Bulldogs on the field and locker room. "
Griffith says, "I don't believe Georgia wins the 2021 National Championship without Christ Smith, and I don't think the win the 2022 National Championship if they hadn't won in 2021."
Griffith expanded, saying, "He was a team leader, and the Georgia secondary has had a lot of turnover, and it is not easy to play for Kirby Smart. It is like Nick Saban, a hard guy to work for. He picks these guys apart every day. Anyone can coach you if you've made it through four or five years of playing for Kirby Smart in the secondary."
Griffith discussed the Kirby Smart and Chris Smith personal dynamic: " Kirby tolerated Chris Smith and loved Chris Smith. Chris got bigger and better each week; doggone it if he didn't do it again this year.
