Must See: Raiders DL Coach Rob Leonard

We sat down with the Las Vegas Raiders Defensive Line Coach Rob Leonard for this long-form must-see interview from training camp.

HENDERSON, Nev.--The Las Vegas Raiders defensive line was not good last season. Maxx Crosby is a superstar, but at times it seemed like Crosby was the only player on the defensive line that played with any productivity.

Coach Josh McDaniels and Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham decided to bring in Rob Leonard and tasked him with the job of improving that line.

You can watch Leonard's entire interview from training camp below:

Several topics are discussed, including:

*The players are raving about Rob Leonard.  To his credit when the players are asked about Leonard, they credit him for being a "Great listener." We discuss that side of Leonard's story and how he developed that style.

*The Raiders selected two rookie defensive tackles in the National Football League 2022 Draft, Matthew Butler and Neil Farrell. They under-produced, and Leonard has been tasked with getting more out of them.

*The Silver and Black in the 2023 National Football League draft took two more rookies in Nesta Jade Silvera, and Byron Young. Leonard has the young players to create something special, and he discusses those players.

*Maxx Crosby is arguably the best defensive end in the National Football League and, without a doubt, the best defensive player on the roster. Leonard discusses how having a player of Crosby's talent, mixed with his work ethic, makes him a better coach.

*Chandler Jones looks different this training camp, and we get Leonard's perspective on his star defensive end.

*John Jenkins has dramatically influenced the young Las Vegas Raiders. Leonard details how he has done that and what he lends to this team.

*Defensive end Malcolm Koonce is a player who is entering a critical season. He has flashed natural ability in his career but can do more.  We hear from Leonard about what he sees in Koonce and his potential.

*Fans are antsy to see first-round (seventh overall) rookie Tyree Wilson play. What can he do while he is out to improve, and when back, what can he do for the Las Vegas Raiders?

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
