Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua Details Intense Training With Cooper Kupp
The Los Angeles Rams returned to the field on Monday to begin the first phase of their voluntary offseason workout program, but as professional athletes, their players already began working the moment the season ended.
Often, players can put together far more intense workouts than teams, as Rams receiver Puka Nacua found out the hard way. The record-setting rookie teamed up with fellow receiver Cooper Kupp for some offseason training at Kupp's house for some conditioning work earlier this offseason.
Kupp certainly put his younger teammate through the wringer, as Nacua said he threw up each day during the program.
“His conditioning days were some of the tougher ones," Nacua told reporters Monday. "I remember the first week I came back, I think I threw up every day of the week and he wasn’t a fan of that because it was all on his lawn.”
"‘You’re throwing up in my bushes, Puka. Thanks.’ But it was super fun and to come back today, I feel like I didn’t miss a beat. There was kind of an idea, like, I don’t know what I’m going to do for the offseason but following Coop’s plan made it super easy and is sending me the right way.”
Kupp is a notoriously hard worker, and Nacua now knows firsthand just how much he pushes himself and others to their limits.
While that workout was extremely strenuous on his body, Nacua knows it will be in service to a greater goal come the fall.
"It made it fun, because I know that there's more to grab," Nacua said. "Last year was so much fun and I learned a lot, but there's still so much left on the table, especially – Coop is the mastermind of running routes. He was very open and honest with me in where I can improve, so it was a huge blessing."
