Ex-Rams QB Jared Goff Says Trade To Detroit Is Best Thing To Ever Happen To Him
Former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff says being traded to the Detroit Lions is the "greatest thing" that ever happened for him in regard to his career.
Goff spent five seasons in L.A. before the Rams swapped him for Matthew Stafford.
"In hindsight, (being traded to Detroit) was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, for my career and my development as a human," Goff said, via NFL.com. "… Being shipped off and being sent to a place to die, essentially, is what a lot of people think it was, and I was never going to allow that to happen," Goff said. "I'm fortunate enough to be around a lot of good coaches and players in Detroit that support me and help me reach my potential."
Goff played 69 games with the Rams and threw for 18,171 yards, 107 touchdowns with 55 interceptions. He's spent the last three seasons in Detroit, logging 12,258 yards, 78 touchdowns and 27 interceptions.
Goff led Detroit's dynamic offense last season, throwing for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The trade has benefited both Goff and Stafford, along with the Rams and Lions. Stafford led the Rams to a Super Bowl in 2022 but was outdueled by Goff and the Lions in the Wild Card Round last season.
Time will tell if the Rams use the 2024 NFL Draft as an opportunity to find their quarterback of the future as Stafford continues to age.
