Rams 'Logical Fit' for Jets QB Zach Wilson Trade?
After being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson's tenure has been anything but smooth.
Wilson seemingly never lived up to expectations in New York and was given permission to seek a trade, but suitors will likely be scarce. The BYU product has dealt with accuracy issues and injuries to go along with the leaguewide perception that he cannot lead a team.
Jets owner Woody Johnson called Wilson a "valuable asset" on Tuesday at the NFL League Meeting in Orlando and said the team would not outright release him. Johnson also stated that Wilson probably needs a change of scenery where he can "observe for a while."
CBS Sports believes the Los Angeles Rams could be a "best fit" for the fourth-year quarterback.
"Yes, maybe Mike LaFleur and Wilson weren't best buddies during their time together in New York," CBS Sports wrote. "Few teams have embraced the QB restoration project quite like the Rams in recent years, taking in-season swings on Baker Mayfield and Carson Wentz in successive years. While Matthew Stafford is entrenched as the starter after a resurgent 2023, L.A. could once again use a younger developmental option, even with the addition of Jimmy Garoppolo."
The Rams' quarterback room is full. But that might be a good thing for Wilson, who would likely feel little pressure to be "the guy" in Los Angeles, freeing him up to learn the system slowly and gain confidence.
It's also possible that Wilson is just not an NFL-caliber quarterback, and he eventually ends up playing in Canada or the UFL spring football league.
