Clay Matthews Feels the Rams are Using Him in a Perfect Way
After 10 seasons in the NFL, all spent with the Green Bay Packers, it was time for a change for linebacker Clay Matthews.
This offseason, he made the move to Los Angeles to play with the Rams, looking to start the glory days of his career and hopefully compete for a championship.
After a week of training camp with his new team, it appears that Matthews is very pleased with how he's being utilized on this new defense.
“They got me playing outside linebacker in a true 3-4 scheme, Wade Phillips defense. It’s very similar to what I was doing through the first nine years of my career out there in Green Bay with Dom Capers,” Matthews said, via the Dan Patrick Show. “So I’m excited to be back working in that role. Rushing the passer, dropping into coverage, playing inside in running games on third down.”
Matthews lived up to his family name in the NFL by being a dominant run-stopper and pass-rusher in Green Bay, and now, with Phillips scheme, he will be put in the position to succeed once again.
“I think they’re using me the same way that I’ve been used pretty much for the entirety of my career,” he continued. “I was used a little bit differently last year with the defensive change we had out there in Green Bay. But I’m excited, they’re using me exactly how I feel I should be used and I think we’re all on the same page.”
It shouldn't be too hard to keep the pro-bowl linebacker happy this year, as he is playing back in his home state of California in front of family. But, if the Rams can fulfill his wishes and scheme things that put Matthews where he needs to be, it's a win-win situation.
