Jared Goff is Now Under More Pressure to Succeed Than Ever

Coming off of a Super Bowl appearance in 2018, Jared Goff now has higher expectations to succeed in 2019, and astronomical compensation should he do it.

Los Angeles Rams' quarterback Jared Goff is coming off of the biggest season in his career. An NFC Champion and Super Bowl runner up, Goff surpassed expectations in 2018 and made a name for himself in the league. 

2019 is about to be even bigger for the young QB. 

Coming off of an ultra-successful year, the expectations are only growing for the 24-year-old. The incentives to succeed have now grown as well. 

Just last week, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz signed a new contract that made him $128 million richer. Goff is of the same draft class as Wentz, and though he is signed with the Rams through the 2020 season, his future compensation is being called into question. 

Should things work out the way Goff is hoping, another successful year will earn him a near-record breaking contract, guaranteeing him north of $100 million. It's plausible that he could be re-signed by LA whether he was to have another stellar season in 2019 or not, but a third-straight deep playoff run would undoubtedly force the Rams to put pen to paper and pay their franchise QB. 

For a young signal-caller, there is an expected hangover period after a successful season, even if said season fell short of the end goal— a Super Bowl ring. For Goff, there is no time to rest. The expectations just got a whole lot higher, and if he wants to get paid, he had better get back to work.
