Colts Sign Ex Rams Kicker Matt Gay to Record Deal

Former Rams kicker Matt Gay has signed a record free-agent deal with the Indianapolis Colts

Matt Gay was a critical part of the Los Angeles Rams' success over the last few seasons.

And on Monday, he reaped the benefits.

According to reports, Gay has signed a four-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts worth $22.5 million - the biggest free agent deal ever for an NFL kicker.

Gay first came to the Rams after Los Angeles signed him from the Colts practice squad in November of 2017 as a replacement for Kai Forbath, who was injured at the time.

However, Gay began his NFL Career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2019 NFL Draft, where he was a fifth-round pick at No. 145 overall.

Gay was then waived by the Buccaneers in September of 2020, where he would soon after join the Colts practice squad.

After joining the Rams, Gay was able to hit his stride, however, helping to bring Los Angeles a Super Bowl, and hitting 101 of 115 on field goal attempts, as well as 138 of 145 on extra point attempts over seven seasons with the franchise.

He has also kicked off 2015 times in his career, with a touchback percentage of 71.6 percent.
