'LFG!' Staffords Ready For Lions vs. Rams in NFC Playoffs?

'LFG!' Kelly and Matthew Stafford Ready For Homecoming of Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams in NFC Playoffs?

The Detroit Lions, before this weekend, hadn't won the NFC North in ... literally forever - something Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly know all too well.

But they've done it now, and the wife of the Los Angeles Rams quarterback is celebrating ... from afar.

"I am so happy about this," Kelly Stafford wrote on social media. "(I'm) a fan unless we are playing them. LFG."

That is a lovely sentiment, and understandable in every way. Stafford, the former No. 1 overall pick in his NFL Draft, spent a dozen years of his NFL career with the Lions, putting up big numbers - he threw for 45,109 yards and 282 touchdowns there - without big team success.

The NFC North was formed 20 years ago. Detroit (now 11-4) had never won the division in this form, and the franchise is now prepping to make its first playoff appearance since 2016.

The Staffords obviously have tied that bind in Detroit, even though Matthew forged his way out of that traditionally losing environment in 2021, engineering a trade to the Rams that has resulted in Super Bowl success ...

And that this year has the surprisingly solid Rams, at 8-7, vying for a Wild Card. Indeed, with L.A. right now sitting in the No. 6 slot in the playoff seeding, and with Detroit sitting at No. 3, there is a legit chance that the Lions and Rams will meet in the opening round of the NFC playoffs back in Detroit. ...at which point Kelly Stafford's "LFG!'' view of the two teams and the two cities would come into clear and competitive focus.
