Daddy Donald: Why Won't Aaron Travel with Rams?

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald won't be joining the team for the preseason finale against the Denver Broncos as he and his wife are expecting a child

The Los Angeles Rams will be without their best player for the final week of the preseason as defensive tackle Aaron Donald will not be traveling with the team.

Coach Sean McVay first shared the news after Saturday's loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, declaring Donald out for the preseason finale against the Denver Broncos and the proceeding joint practices. Due to Donald's upcoming absence, he dressed for the Raiders game to help himself get back into the flow of game day before the regular season kicks off.

Donald has a very good reason for his absence, though, as he and his wife are expecting a child very soon.

“He's got a baby that's due any day and so he's not going to make the trip to Denver and so we wanted to make sure that he got kind of his dress rehearsal, so that was the thought process there," McVay told reporters. "A lot of our guys that haven't played in the preseason will go through that next week. I wanted to be able to get that done with him this week.”

Despite suiting up for the Raiders game, Donald has yet to actually play in the preseason. With him now officially out for the final game of the preseason, the next time he takes the field will be the Rams' season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 10.

Donald has missed quite a bit of time throughout the offseason. The Rams excused him from OTAs and mandatory minicamp, and he has had several veteran rest days.

The Rams wrap up their preseason slate with a road matchup against the Broncos on Saturday night.
