BREAKING: Los Angeles Rams CB Derion Kendrick Arrested On Gun Charge
Los Angeles Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick was arrested early Monday morning, mere hours after his team defeated the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium, per TMZ Sports.
According to TMZ, police officers pulled over Kendrick, 23, for a traffic violation when they found a concealed gun in his car. Jail records show that Kendrick was booked at 2:14 a.m. PT (5:14 a.m. ET), and reportedly remains in custody as of 2:30 p.m. PT.
The Rams have not yet responded to TMZ's request for comment. Further details about the arrest are also not available as of Monday evening.
Kendrick has a track record of off-field issues. In February 2021, he was dismissed from the Clemson football program due to multiple disciplinary issues. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney even commented on the subject after the Tigers' win over Pittsburgh in November 2020.
"We just didn't play him today," Swinney said, per 247Sports. "Some people might say he's in the dog house. I like to say he's in the love shack. Just a little discipline. I love DK. He's one of my favorites, actually. Just put him in the love shack this weekend."
After his dismissal from Clemson, Kendrick transferred to Georgia for his final collegiate season in 2021, where he helped the Bulldogs win their first of two straight national titles.
The Rams drafted Kendrick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and he started six games as a rookie. With huge changes on defense this offseason, though, the Rams have relied on Kendrick, as well as other young defensive backs like cornerback Cobie Durant and safety Russ Yeast, to step up in a big way. So far this season, Kendrick has started each of the Rams' six games and played at least 89 percent of snaps in each one.
In his time with the Rams, Kendrick has 68 total tackles and seven passes defensed.
