Rams NFL Draft Dream: 1st Round Talent on Day 2?
The Los Angeles Rams are without a first-round pick for the seventh-straight season and will likely have to wait until the second round before making their selection.
It is not ideal for a team that is in the beginning stages of a rebuild or a "remodel," as general manager Les Snead called it. But it is what the Rams will have to work with unless they can make a trade.
The Rams need reinforcements from the draft after a so-far lackluster offseason, where they've offloaded key players in exchange for getting back into a more manageable cap situation without bringing in many additions. So how can they improve with their first pick being No. 36 overall?
Pro Football Focus wrote that the "perfect" scenario for the Rams would have first-round talent sliding into the second round.
"The Rams' dream scenario with their top pick is that a first-round caliber offensive lineman slips and is available when they are on the clock," PFF said before mentioning Florida's O'Cyrus Torrence as one of the prospects to watch.
Torrence, the offensive guard, has seen his draft projections fluctuate from being a first-round pick to maybe even sliding down the board to the second, depending on where analysts rank him among other interior linemen.
Recently TCU's Steve Avila has been a name that is getting mentioned more with potential late first-round buzz, which could work out in the Rams' favor if that means Torrence slides.
But PFF also points out that adding another wide receiver could be beneficial. The Rams have yet to trade away Allen Robinson and could use a replacement after failing to bring back Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency.
In any other year, the goal for the Rams would be to find a starter with their first and second-round picks. But this year, they must hope to get starters on Day 2 alone.
