Should Rams Pursue Buccaneers Free Agent Antoine Winfield Jr.?

The Los Angeles Rams were in the bottom half of the NFL in passing yards allowed, so it might be time for the team to star thinking about signing some players for the secondary in free agency.

Brad Spielberger of PFF ranked the best free agents at each position, and for the safeties, the top player is Tampa Bay Buccaneers free safety Antoine Winfield Jr.

"Winfield can line up in the box, take on receivers in the slot and play as a roaming deep-third free safety, finding success in single-high and two-high coverage shells," Spielberger writes. "The former second-round pick is a difference-maker on the backend, and his remarkable versatility carries value at a position that appreciates it more than perhaps any other."

The Rams have a number of positions on their defense that could use an upgrade, and Winfield could slide in at a number of those spots. The versatility that he brings is the reason why Winfield received a number of honors this season.

He was selected to the All-Pro First Team, and was one of the reasons why the Buccaneers ended the season as the NFC South Champions and made it past the first round of the playoffs.

If the Rams were to get a big name in free agency, Winfield would perhaps be one of the guys that could make an immediate impact. The former second-round pick is only 25 years old, and could fit in well with the young core of the Rams defense.
