'Boring Rams': GM Les Snead Explains Offseason Approach

The Los Angeles Rams are undergoing a roster "remodeling" but have yet to make any key signings.
In this story:

The Los Angeles Rams have been silent regarding player acquisition thus far. Has it been intentional, or have they been unable to win at the negotiating table?

The latest comments from general manager Les Snead make it seem like being quiet is all part of a plan.

"We're the ‘boring’ Rams this year Rams this year," Snead said at the NFL Owners Meetings in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Rams already have their championship "pillar" in place, quarterback Matthew Stafford, wide receiver Cooper Kupp, and defensive tackle Aaron Donald. But they can't just rely on those three players. So what's the plan?

Well, Snead put it, he wants to "engineer" some cap space after years where Los Angeles was able to spend big in the name of acquiring talent.

"So that when we do get to a moment where we think, 'OK, let's press the gas again,'" Snead said, "you have the capability to do it."

Building through the NFL Draft is a complete 180 from where the Rams were just a few years ago; they haven't used a first-round draft pick since 2016 when they selected quarterback Jared Goff.

As part of the Stafford trade, the Rams don't have a first-rounder this April, meaning they'd either have to trade up to get one or stay put and work with what they have.
