'No Denying It' Jonah Jackson Reveals Why He Signed With L.A.
The Los Angeles Rams made a big splash in free agency last week, signing offensive guard Jonah Jackson to a three-year, $51 million deal with $34 million guaranteed.
The move not only filled a big hole for L.A., but - in combination with the re-signing of Kevin Dotson, and the presumed move of Steve Avila to center, gave them one of the best interior lines in the NFL.
But what was it that drew Jackson to Southern California?
As Jackson revealed at his introductory press conference, it was the chance to win a Super Bowl in 2024, and getting a chance to play with Matthew Stafford again.
“I had some familiarity with Stafford," Jackson said. "I had him my rookie year and I’ve seen the pieces to the puzzle, the ability to possibly make it all the way and I definitely wanted to be a part of something like that.”
The importance of winning a championship was so important to Jackson in fact, that he bypassed a chance at a bigger contract to sign with L.A.
Obviously, the money was still an important factor for Jackson.
But the combination of what the Rams were able to offer in terms of success both on and off the field, was simply too good to pass up.
“Once I heard the Rams were willing to do what they did and be able to go somewhere and potentially win it all, there was no denying it," Jackson said. "There were some teams, maybe we could have done some more, but I wanted the perfect balance of being able to set my family up for life and be able to win football games.”
but after their first-round exit last season, why does Jackson believe that the Rams are so well-equipped for a Super Bowl run?
'The Wizard!' New Rams OL Happy to Reunite With Stafford
He believes that the presence of Stafford and head coach Sean McVay, as well as how the franchise is run, is one of a kind, and has the franchise set up for even more success next season.
“You just see it from the outside. You see the quarterback. He's second to none. The pieces to the puzzle are just incredible," Jackson said. "And then you see Coach McVay and how they run things. It’s an approachable place you feel. And you feel like it’s somewhere you can get settled in pretty fast and that's why I felt like it was a good fit for me.”
