Rams to Interview Brandon Stanley on Wednesday For Defensive Coordinator Job
The Los Angeles Rams recently lost defensive coordinator Raheem Morris to the Atlanta Falcons, after he was hired as the team's new head coach.
And now, the man whom Morris replaced is on the Rams' radar once again.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Rams have set their interview with former Chargers head coach - and Rams defensive coordinator - Brandon Staley for Wednesday.
Under Staley's guidance, the Rams' defense performed exceptionally well in the 2020 season, earning him recognition as one of the top defensive minds in the NFL, while his unit finished ranked No. 1 in the league in total defense.
His success with the Rams led to him being hired as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers for the 2021 season. Morris later succeeded Staley as the Rams defensive coordinator that offseason.
Staley, who had a previous stint with the Rams as their defensive coordinator before moving to the Chargers, was let go in the middle of his third season with the team. This decision came after a blowout loss to the Raiders on Thursday Night Football, where Easton Stick stepped in as the quarterback due to Justin Herbert's injury.
Rams Interview Former Commanders' Head Coach Ron Rivera
With Staley calling the defense in 2023, the Chargers' defense largely struggled, ranking 31st out of 32 teams in pass defense, and in the bottom 10 of the NFL in scoring defense.
That said, his track record with the Rams is proven, and a return to L.A. could very well be the most comfortable landing spot for the 41-year-old
If it's not Staley, there is an impressive list of candidates who have interviewed for the job, including Ron Riveria, Aubrey Pleasant, Aden Durde, and Chris Shula.
