Rams Trade Idea: Jalen Ramsey to Dolphins? Here's What it Could Take

Anything could happen this offseason, but a Jalen Ramsey trade between the Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins would certainly be something to see.
In this story:

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey has even admitted that a trade for him can't be ruled out this offseason.

While almost any player can technically be traded on a moment's notice when the league allows it, having the guy say it himself before deleting the tweet is notable. So in an offseason where trade predictions run wild, including one with Ramsey makes a ton of sense.

Pro Football Focus is the latest to draw up a Ramsey-Rams trade prediction, listing it as one of five trades to watch this offseason. Here's what PFF had to say about the potential trade and what it could take.

- Trade compensation: Rams send Ramsey, 2023 5th (compensatory); acquire 2023 2nd, 2024 2nd

- Contract acquired: Three years, $55 million ($12.5 million total guaranteed)

The Dolphins have been among the most aggressive teams in the NFL over the past few offseasons, notably trading first-round picks for wide receiver Tyreek Hill and edge defender Bradley Chubb over the course of the 2022 season. Why stop there?

Ramsey played college football at Florida State and began his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, so he continues his football journey back in Florida with new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Fangio’s zone-heavy defensive scheme has already proven to be a great fit for Ramsey, with Fangio disciple Brandon Staley coaching Ramsey with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020. Fangio could deploy Ramsey as the “Star” in the defense with Xavien Howard staying out wide. That would allow the Dolphins to get the most out of Ramsey in the slot, down in the box and, really, all over the formation.

Set to make a base salary of $17 million next year per Spotrac, rumors have swirled of Ramsey potentially being on the chopping block due to LA's need for cap room. He's been catching glimpses of all the recent gossip surrounding his uncertain future with the Rams.

"100% chance I WON'T get cut … God bless tho," Ramsey tweeted Thursday. "This misinformation people run with is hilarious."

However, in the aforementioned now-deleted tweet, Ramsey was brutally honest when addressing the likelihood of him being traded. He seems to regret pressing send on that one since it was quickly taken down.

"I can PROMISE you, I won’t get cut… now trade? Maybe lol," Ramsey tweeted.

If the Dolphins can land Ramsey, their defense would seemingly see a boost by adding a six-time Pro Bowler. But even if sending two future second-round picks seems like too much for a 28-year-old that had his struggles this past season, it's important to look at the positives as well.

(Also important: Cap issues, as our colleagues at AllDolphins detail here.)

Ramsey started all 17 games and finished with four interceptions for the second straight season. He also had two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and recorded his first-career sack before finishing the season with two of them.

Anything could happen this offseason, but Ramsey's arrival in South Beach would certainly be something to see.
