Rams QB Jimmy Garoppolo's Contract Details Revealed
Jimmy Garoppolo is back in the NFC West after signing with the Los Angeles Rams last week.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Garoppolo's contract with the Rams is a one-year deal with a base value of $4.5 million. However, Garoppolo can earn up to $12 million with incentives.
After being with the San Francisco 49ers since 2017, Garoppolo, 32 signed a three-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders last offseason. He only played seven games for the Raiders, completing 65.1 percent of his passes and throwing for 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. Garoppolo was benched after the team fired head coach Josh McDaniels halfway through the season, with rookie Aidan O'Connell taking over the starting job.
Following the worst statistical season of Garoppolo's starting career, the Raiders released him in February.
It's also worth noting that Garoppolo will miss the first two games of the season due to a suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. In his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Garoppolo said he "just messed up" the Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).
New Rams QB Jimmy Garoppolo Embracing Backup Role
Now, Garoppolo heads to L.A. to serve as Matthew Stafford's backup. If he is thrust into the action and plays well, perhaps he could parlay that performance into a bigger contract next offseason.
