Rams' Sean McVay Reveals Joe Noteboom Injury, Updates Status

The Los Angeles Rams saw starting right guard Joe Noteboom go down with an injury - but how severe is it?
In this story:

It feels like just days ago the Los Angeles Rams saw nearly their entire offensive line fall due to injuries last year, leaving quarterback Matthew Stafford under constant pressure.

But really, that was last year - and early returns this season have been entirely different.

The Rams are coming off a hard-fought 30-23 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in which Stafford was sacked only once; after the game, he said the unit "did a great job" while both he and coach Sean McVay praised the effort they played with.

It wasn't all smooth sailing, however, as Los Angeles watched starting right guard Joe Noteboom leave prematurely due to an injury; Noteboom, of course, battled multiple injuries during training camp this summer after missing the final 11 games of last season with a torn ACL.

Fortunately, the injury news surrounding Noteboom is much better this time around, with McVay noting he anticipates having the 28-year-old available in the Rams' Week 3 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals.

“It's really guys with their typical bumps and bruises," McVay said. "He got a good deep bruise on that shoulder, but we think he's going to be okay. We'll take it day-to-day with him, but don't expect it to affect his game status next Monday.”

Better yet, Noteboom will have an additional day to heal up, with McVay pointing out that Los Angeles won't take the field until Monday night.

Noteboom played all 81 snaps in the Rams' season-opening 30-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks but went down after only 37 against San Francisco, which equated to 46 percent of the team's total offensive snaps.

The injury came amidst a strong outing from Noteboom, as McVay said he "was playing a really good game" before departing.

Tremayne Anchrum replaced Noteboom thereafter, and McVay believes he "did a really nice job" apart from a miscommunication that led to the 49ers' lone sack.

Nonetheless, it appears that Noteboom will be back on the field next week, eyeing another impressive showing in a bounce-back campaign for both him and the Rams' offensive line.

Kickoff between Los Angeles and Cincinnati inside Paycor Stadium is set for 5:15 p.m. PST on Monday night.
