Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford Expected To Start vs. Seattle Seahawks
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is expected to make his return to the starting lineup for Sunday's home game against the Seattle Seahawks, coach Sean McVay said.
Stafford suffered a sprained UCL in his right thumb in an Oct. 29 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, which caused him to miss the rest of that game and a Nov. 5 loss to the Green Bay Packers. McVay says that Stafford threw during individual drills, a great sign for the Rams after their Week 10 bye.
Without Stafford in the lineup, the Rams' quarterback situation has taken plenty of turns. L.A. initially turned to Brett Rypien, who started against the Packers but struggled by completing 13 of 28 passes for 130 yards and an interception. After the game, the Rams released both Rypien and practice squad quarterback Dresser Winn, whom they signed just for some added depth.
In their place came Carson Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Wentz began his career on the right foot with the Philadelphia Eagles, but eventually fell out of favor with them, the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Commanders. While it's unlike Wentz will regain his 2017 form, a year in which he probably would've won MVP had he not torn his ACL late in the season, he does provide the Rams with a more reliable backup option than they had previously.
Stafford, 35, has completed 59.7 percent of his passes this season for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. If the veteran quarterback is in fact in the lineup on Sunday, it would be a major boost to a Rams team that has lost three straight games.
