Could Los Angeles Rams Draft Clemson Cornerback Nate Wiggins?
The Los Angeles Rams' secondary could have used some help this past season, and the team has added some players to do just that.
But despite the fact that the team has signed some free agents to help the pass defense, taking a corner in the upcoming NFL Draft might not be a bad idea. If the team were to do that, then an intriguing option could be Clemson's Nate Wiggins.
He was First-team All-ACC and had a great senior season with the Tigers. He led the team with nine pass breakups and had two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
But the main calling card for Wiggins is the athleticism that he possesses for his size at the corner position. Some defensive backs are a bit shorter, but Wiggins is a solid 6-1, the same height as former Ram Jalen Ramsey.
Wiggins ran a scorching 4.28 in the 40-yard dash, which lends well to him being selected near the top of the draft. Having elite speed is something you can't teach, and having it at the corner position means that Wiggins has a massive upside in the Draft.
If the Rams were to draft a young corner like Wiggins, then the team would be continuing to build on their already impressive young defensive core. The team has added a couple of veterans on that side of the ball this offseason, so having some more young guys for them to mentor could work in the team's favor.
