Rams' Nick Caley 'Finalist' For Patriots' Offensive Coordinator Role

Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams may soon lose another assistant coach to an outside promotion.

It's a yearly tradition at this point for other teams to raid the coaching staff of Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams, and this offseason is no exception.

McVay and the Rams have already lost several assistants this offseason, most notably defensive coordinator Raheem Morris - who left to become the new coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson and assistant head coach Jimmy Lake then followed Morris to Atlanta, becoming the Falcons' offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, respectively.

Assistant special teams coach Jeremy Springer then left to become the special teams coordinator for the New England Patriots, and now, another Rams assistant may be going with him to Foxboro.

According to The Boston Herald, Rams tight ends coach Nick Caley is "a finalist" for the Patriots' offensive coordinator job.

Caley, 41, just completed his first, and potentially only season in L.A. In his brief time with the club, he helped rejuvenate the Rams' offense into a top-10 unit once more and brought some outside help to the fold.

Prior to joining the Rams, Caley spent eight years as an assistant in New England, working his way up from an offensive assistant in 2015 to eventually becoming the tight ends and fullbacks coach. As the Patriots continue to build their staff around new head coach Jerod Mayo, Caley's previous experience with the club undoubtedly makes him a compelling candidate.

Several candidates have interviewed for the job, but Caley is the only one to have an in-person interview with the team so far, alongside former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. As such, it's no surprise that he's one of the top choices for the job.

McVay already has plenty of work to do in rebuilding his staff this offseason, and with how many teams still want to capture his magic, it wouldn't be shocking if Caley is the latest assistant to find an opportunity elsewhere.
