'I'm Thinking This is My Last Year!' Rams Ex OBJ Plans Ravens Retirement
Odell Beckham Jr. is back this season after signing with the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. Yet, the former Los Angeles Rams star recently revealed that he almost called it quits on his football career following his knee injury that occurred in the Super Bowl LVI win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
And, he's also revealing that he's ready to call it quits after this season.
"I'm thinking like this is my last year," Beckham said. "I'm going to give it my all this year. And then if something happens after that, we can go from there."
One can understand his view after fighting his way back from when he thought the end would be forced on him by fate.
“I went through a lot the last couple of years, and I thought it was over,” Beckham told The Athletic about his rehab. “I didn’t want to get back up on the horse and do the same song and dance all over again.”
This is the second big revelation from Beckham since signing with the Ravens, as he continues to peel back the curtain on what he went through in his year away from the football field.
After signing with the Ravens in April, Beckham revealed at his introductory press conference that he didn't tear his ACL in the Super Bowl. Rather, he did it earlier in the season. But, instead of sitting out the rest of the season and undergoing surgery, OBJ decided to play through it until he couldn't anymore.
Some believe if Beckham never tore his ACL in that 2021 season, he would've gone on to become the Super Bowl MVP as he got off to a hot start versus the Bengals with two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown before the injury sidelined him.
Yet, that isn't how it transpired, as Beckham was out of the spotlight for over a year in rehab and seemingly contemplating his football future before ultimately deciding to sign with the Ravens as he looks to chase a second ring. ... and then maybe give it all up after that.
