Los Angeles Rams Offense Falls Short in Second Half in Loss to Philadelphia Eagles
The Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles looked poised for an offensive shootout after the first half of play at SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
With the score 17-14 entering the locker room, and both offenses humming, fans were understandably poised for the show to continue over the final two quarters.
However, that was not the case in the second half - at least for the Rams.
Over the final two quarters, L.A. was shut out by the Eagles' defense, in large part due to the pass rush, which sacked quarterback Matthew Stafford four times on the afternoon, while hitting him eight more times.
In fact, after a vintage performance in the first half, in which Stafford completed 12 of 17 passes for 147 yards and two scores, the Eagles were able to completely stifle to veteran.
Stafford went on to complete just 9 of 20 passes for 75 yards in the second half of play - a good portion of which came in garbage time with the game already in hand.
Star wideout Cooper Kupp led the way early on for L.A., catching six passes on eight targets for 95 yards in the first half of his first game back after missing the first four games of the year on the injured reserve list.
Kupp finished with just two catches in the second half for 23 yards.
Meanwhile, the Rams running game, which was a major strength of the offense through the first four games of the year was also largely shut down Philadelphia's elite front seven, with Kyren Williams gaining 53 yards on 13 carries.
It was just the second game this season in which Williams held out of the end zone.
On the defensive side of things, it was far from perfect for L.A., with the Rams giving up over 300 yards through the air to Eagles star QB Jalen Hurts.
That said, the Rams were able to hold the high-powered Philly offense to just six second-half points and provide every opportunity for the offense to take advantage.
Ultimately, however, it wasn't enough, and the Eagles were able to hold on for the win.
So what is next for the now 2-3 Rams after the disappointing second-half showing?
An NFC West rivalry matchup against the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday at 1:25 p.m. PT - a game that L.A. can ill afford to lose in their quest for a playoff return.
