New Rams Coach Mike LaFleur 'Couldn't Be Happier' to Be In Los Angeles
Life comes at you fast in the NFL, and for the Los Angeles Rams that was a lesson learned the hard way this season.
They went from one of the NFL's best offenses, 27.1 points per game on 372 yards of offense per game, and a Super Bowl victory to 22.6 points per game on 280.5 yards of total offense which landed them with a disappointing 5-12 record.
Bringing in former Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur as the new offensive coordinator is a move that the Rams hope gets them back to that level on offense, and LaFleur is eager to get to work.
"I couldn't be happier," LaFleur said. "If I could have picked (out) of all the teams, there wouldn't have been one that I would have rather gone to than here, for obvious reasons."
"They know how to win in this building, and there's a lot of great people in this building. And when you can check those boxes and be genuine as a coach, as a player, as a staff member, what else would you want?"
Under LaFleur, the Jets averaged a mere 17.4 points per game but on 318.2 yards of offense per game. While the points may leave something to be desired, LaFleur also dealt with a myriad of injuries as well as having to juggle a difficult quarterback situation.
Coming to Los Angeles will offer stability, with Matthew Stafford at quarterback throwing to weapons such as receiver Cooper Kupp and tight end Tyler Higbee. Of course, it also helps that he will be working with one of the NFL's best offensive minds in Sean McVay.
There is no telling the extent to which LaFleur will be involved in calling plays, or how much of an impact he will have on the Rams offense. If he can make a positive difference, though, this is a Rams team that has proven they're legit contenders in the NFC.
