Los Angeles Rams Labeled Big Winners In 2023 Draft Class Rankings
The Los Angeles Rams had a major turnaround in 2023, going from NFC West bottom dweller to playoff contender in one short offseason.
A major reason for that success was the health of their established stars Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald.
However, arguably just as important was an influx of new talent and production from their stellar rookie class, led by receiver Puka Nacua, offensive lineman Steve Avila, edge rusher Byron Young, and defensive tackle Kobie Turner.
For the effort of their rookie class, Pro Football Focus ranked the Rams as the No. 3, most productive class in the NFL, just behind the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans.
The Rams rookies collectively logged 4,646 snaps.
Puka Nacua, the wide receiver, excelled with an impressive 2.67 yards per route run and an exceptional 89.3 receiving grade, setting single-season rookie records for catches and yards along the way.
On the defensive line, Kobie Turner showcased his prowess with an impressive 81.2 pass-rush grade and a notable 11.0 percent pressure rate, resulting in 12 sacks. Turner's disruptive presence disrupted opposing offenses and bolstered the team's defensive performance.
On the outside, Young exhibited potential with a pass-rush grade of 59.7 and a pressure rate of 10.2 percent. While showing promise in pass rushing, Young may benefit from refining his technique to become a more consistent threat off the edge.
Avila, meanwhile, demonstrated mixed performance, earning a respectable 65.0 pass-block grade but a modest 56.0 run-block grade. Avila's production may change next season, however, as he makes the transition to center.
With a first round pick in their pocket for the first time since 2016, the Rams will hope to enjoy similar success in this year's NFL Draft, which is set to kick off on April 25.
