'I Was Coming Back': Rams QB Matthew Stafford Clears Up Retirement Rumors

Speculation swirled this offseason surrounding the future of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, but on Monday, he cleared up the confusion
In this story:

A few weeks ago Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford's future was rumored to be up in the air.

He was coming off of a pair of serious injuries, and at the age of 35, many insinuated that his career was nearing its end.

However, during his meeting with the media on Monday, Stafford cleared the air on those rumors and explained that he never really considered hanging it up.

“I felt really confident I was coming back. I feel like more people were less confident in that than I was. But no, I was ready to go, ready to play as soon as I was cleared and I feel great, feel healthy, and I'm not 25 but I definitely feel good.”

Stafford now enters his first truly healthy offseason in quite some time and is looking forward to helping the Rams rebound off of their dismal 5-12 Super Bowl LVI defense.

And while the unprecedented amount of injuries were a big part of those struggles, including the ones Stafford himself, he is ready to move on and get back on the field.

“I'm not going to talk too much about what used to be or how I used to feel or anything like that," Stafford said. "All I know is that I put a lot of work and time into trying to feel as good as I can for right now.

"I do feel about as good as I can for right now and it's exciting for me. So it was a lot of hard work, some tough times, and (I’m) just excited to be where I am right now.”
