'Motivated' Rams QB Matthew Stafford 'Has Good Look In His Eye'
Whispers of retirement swirled about the future of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford following a tumultuous 2022 season, where the Rams didn’t make the playoffs. They were plagued by injuries to several key players, including Stafford.
But fighting back against adversity is nothing new for the veteran quarterback, nor is a rebuild. While a rebuild may not be what the 35-year-old wants to endure at this stage of his career, Stafford isn't walking away from the challenge.
Speaking with SiriusXM NFL Radio, head coach Sean McVay said he still sees that hungriness in his quarterback.
"He loves the game. He loves to be able to go play," McVay said of Stafford. "He loves to go compete. I think when you look at some of the things that he had to navigate through last year, he's motivated to come back and respond and lead."
"He's got a good look in his eye, and I'm glad he's leading the way for us."
McVay's revelation of Stafford being able to throw is good news after a season in which an elbow injury limited him.
But even better for the Rams, Stafford still has the desire to compete and play football.
Stafford threw for 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in nine games for the Rams last season - the kinds of numbers that are not synonymous with his 14-year career.
But now that he is finally able to get back into the fold at 100 percent, Stafford will look to help the Rams' offense, and himself, return to form.
