Rams QB Matthew Stafford Invests in Angel City FC

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is just the latest professional athlete to invest in a pro soccer team.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly announced via a press release on Friday that they are investing in Angel City F.C., the expansion National Women's Soccer League team.

"We fell in love with attending an Angel City game last season and wanted our daughters to experience something so important and powerful first-hand," the Staffords said.

It is the second season for the newest soccer team in the NWSL, which has a number of high-profile investors, including Ryan Kalil, Gabrielle Union, Candance Parker, Serena Williams, Alexis Ohanian, and Billie Jean King, among others.

Professional athletes buying ownership in soccer teams is nothing new. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has invested in Sporting Kansas City, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has a stake in Liverpool F.C., and Kevin Durant has ownership of Philadelphia Union, to name a few.

Stafford also recently bought a Vineyard estate in Hidden Hills, as he continues to make investments after signing onto a four-year $160 million contract extension he signed last offseason.

Stafford and the Rams are coming off a disappointing season, where injuries allowed the veteran quarterback to play in just nine games. The former No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick threw for 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while completing 68% of his throws.

Stafford will undoubtedly be looking to have a bounce-back season next fall despite the Rams looking like they are at the beginning stages of a rebuild.
