Rams' Sean McVay Praises Quentin Lake: 'Great Toughness!'

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay felt good about what he has seen from safety Quentin Lake during the preseason
In this story:

During the Los Angeles Rams' first two preseason games, they had their initial look at the unproven players on the roster, and certain individuals have begun to make an impact.

One of these players is Quentin Lake, a safety drafted in the sixth round in 2022. In his 2023 debut with the team last week, he made a strong impression, recording three tackles in the Rams' preseason opener, where the team lost 34-17 to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Following his impressive performance last week, he continued to shine with another three-tackle game during the Rams' 34-17 loss against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday night, catching the eye of his coach, Sean McVay.

"He's doing a great job. I think he's got the ability to play safety. He's done a nice job being able to play in our dime package and his versatility. His football instincts and intelligence show up. I think he's shown great toughness in some of those covers. You look at it, he's made a handful of plays in the kickoff coverage unit each of the last couple of weeks," McVay said

Additionally, McVay praised Lake for his intelligence on the field.

"He's been really productive as a safety, and I think he's really just getting comfortable," McVay said. "Always been instinctual, incredibly smart, comes from a great football pedigree. I've been pleased with Quentin over the last couple of weeks."

As the Rams prepare for their final preseason game against the Denver Broncos on Aug. 26., it will be the last chance for Lake to prove that he deserves a spot on the Rams' 53-man roster.
