Los Angeles Rams' Raheem Morris Reveals Mindset in Preparing For Packers Without Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers is no longer a Green Bay Packer, and that is welcome news for Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
In speaking with the media this week, Morris was asked if it was strange to prepare for a Rodgers-less Packers team, and while the offense has a different look with Jordan Love under center, he is not taking anything for granted this week.
“It's great," Morris said with a laugh. "Nothing against (Packers QB) Jordan Love, but we’re talking about a Hall of Famer when you talk about Aaron and a very sarcastic Hall of Famer at that. It's nothing like when a guy comes to the sideline, tell you what play you ran and what he saw and then you're just like, ‘I hate you’ (laughter)."
Rodgers was with the Packers from 2005 through last season before joining the New York Jets in 2023. In the first game of the season, however, Rodgers tore his achilles and is now out for the season.
Throughout his NFL career, Rodgers has thrown for over 59,000 yards and 475 touchdowns. While Jordan Love shows promise under center in Green Bay, it is evident that he does not bring the same veteran expertise to the game that Rodgers would.
Morris also sees some similarities between the Rams and Packers (even without Rodgers) who will meet on Sunday, namely a hunger to win. The Rams (3-5) and Packers (2-5) have fallen on difficult times at points this season, so L.A. will likely be getting Green Bay's best shot.
"Fired up to go see those guys," Morris said. "They're young, they're hungry, they're competitive just like us. They're hungry for a win the same way. We've both got young guys out there playing and competing and fighting. I really respect that coaching staff and what they're capable of doing so I look forward to the challenge there going against Jordan.”
The Rams may be trotting out a young quarterback as well this week as veteran Matthew Stafford suffered a UCL sprain in his thumb last Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Stafford has not practiced this week, but his status remains day-to-day.
Green Bay and Los Angeles are slated to kick off at 10 a.m. PT on Sunday, and the game will be broadcast on FOX.
